sEx ShOw

So… I was to feature May 5 on Tim’m’s Front Porch. Cool. I thought of some ideas for flyers. I scratched up a pretty cool one, I thought…The idea of the flyer was the muse (visualized by my friend Ryan) that inspires the writing and type of writing I do. Sometimes the muse is in control and feeds that writing desire that can be powerful and erotic (the pic with the muse on top), but also the power and strength of some of my work that may be even too much even for the "muse" to look at (the pic with me covering the muse's eyes).
My shit can be deep sometimes and the buzz about the flyer was that it was gonna be an erotic sexy show. I had not intended for my set to run that way… hahahahaha…. I had planned to do a piece for my Ma being close to mother’s day and all, I had a political piece and something about my friends and 2 musical pieces. Well after all the buzz, I changed up some stuff and also decided to include my man Ryan in the show. I think that part went off really well.
I closed the show and though I thought that would be a cool thing, it was quite the task to follow such amazing acts as Monica McIntyre, Afi, and Taylored Poet. Most of the crowd was pretty much there to see them and hauled off after those features were done. It was a bit unnerving to have people leave before you even start your set and that threw me off being the nervous perfectionist I can be. The crowd that remained were very kind though, and enjoyed Ryan as my “muse”. He is definitely wonderful to look at aside from knowing and loving the true man he is. I thought my part awful, although my friends there (Derrick, Kenny and Ryan) said it was good/fantastic whatever. But I just thought they’re friends, they HAVE to say nice things… like our parents did when we were kids. How they would say 'oh you’re cuter than a bugs ear', when in fact you were as ugly as a horses ass. But I watched the tape and the poetry was decent, “He Kisses Me” I liked exceptionally well and came off good. “Savage” was decadently fun and perfect and was well received by three folks in the audience who seemed to enjoy it a little toooooo much. I totally dug that. The “Ain’t Gonna” song sucked the green weenie and not in a good way and after crying after reading the Rescuers, I was not about to attempt singing my remix of “I’m on Fire”. I sooooo wanted to jam with Monica on that though. Maybe next time. So after watching the video I was a tad more content than after the show and appreciate everyone who dug my time Thursday. Tim’m’s dedication of “Easy to Love” was absolutely wonderful and made me cry as his stuff usually does, but in a good way. :D
Derrick took some great shots and really has an eye for moments…YOU ARE HIRED!!!! Kenny was my great encourager and support of the nite as always. It was so good just to hold your hand. And he gives the best niptweaks :D. And Ryan, who came all the way from New York last minute to fulfill my creative fantasy on stage and be with me. That is love. Friends are love. And are valued among the best things in my life. Thank you.
